Anchor Chain
An anchor chain is a special chain connecting the anchor and the hull and transmitting the anchor's gripping force. The main functions of the anchor chain are: connecting the anchor and the ship, and transmitting the anchor's gripping force to the hull; when anchoring, the thrown anchor chain has a certain weight, which can play a certain buffering role in the water against the wind and other external forces on the ship; the anchor chain lying flat on the bottom of the water keeps the force on the anchor horizontal, which is conducive to the reliable grip of the anchor. At the same time, this part of the anchor chain can also provide a part of the anchoring force due to the blocking effect of the soil.

It is usually composed of anchor end links, middle links, and end links. According to the structure of the chain link, it can be divided into two types: stud anchor chain and studless anchor chain. The former is stronger than the latter; according to the manufacturing method, the anchor chain can be divided into a cast steel anchor chain and an electric welding anchor chain. The length of the anchor chain is measured in sections, and the standard length of each section of the anchor chain is 27.5m. The sections are connected with connecting links or connecting shackles. Usually, the chain length of each main anchor on a 10,000-ton ship is about 12 sections.
