The ship anchor chain is the mechanism that keeps the boat in place. An anchor is a metal device that secures a vessel to the bottom of a body of water to stop it from drifting due to the wind or current.
Temporary or permanent anchors are available. Permanent anchors are used to creating moorings and are rarely changed; moving or maintaining them usually necessitates the services of a specialized service. Boats are equipped with one or more temporary anchors of various designs and weights.
The anchor chain, also known as the anchor rode, is the component that connects the anchor to the boat or structure (or anchor cable). Multiple closed loop-like link segments make up the anchor chain. Every loop is connected to the loops next to it, resulting in a chain of arbitrary length. The anchor ride's purpose is to tie the anchor to a component of the vessel so that it can be quickly hauled up in the event of a need.
What is the importance of the anchor chain?
Using a chain on any anchor is the most crucial part of the whole anchoring system. Although some manufacturers claim that their anchor doesn't need a chain, decades of anchoring research and testing show that this is not true. These are often low-grade anchors used by kayakers or on tiny bodies of water where the forces on the anchors are limited, and the chain won't make a significant impact.

• The chain creates downward pressure on the anchor handle, allowing it to set faster and more reliably (also called the shank).
• Protects your nylon line from underwater debris or other sharp objects that can cut the line and cause an anchor to be lost.
•  Assists in keeping the rode horizontal after it has been set, rather than being pushed upward and loosening the anchor.
•  Allows the use of the breakaway release method, which reduces the risk of losing an anchor stuck under something.
• Transfers energy in a downward motion to the extreme end of the anchor handle. Adding 4 feet of chain to an anchor is essentially the same as extending the handle by 4 feet. Although that isn't practicable, one could imagine how much leverage a handle will provide for that long.
• Because of the specific weight of each link, the anchor chain may be stored in the anchor chain storage locker compactly. Individual links are considerably easier to store than rope or cable, which tends to be elastic and hence more difficult to coil up.
