Matching to Chain amterial qualities
Shackles are available either in forged or cast finish in many different patterns.
Experience have shown that the kiln chain area the actual temperatures are approx.100-150°C (212-302°F) lower than in the kiln centre,
therefore, a lower heat resi sting grade for shackles and hangers is recommended and more cost effective.

The correct selection of the material quality is essential for a
good service life and, therefore, for the cost effectiveness of a
chain system.
Kiln temperature, kiln gases and type of firing are the primary
components in the selection of material qualities.

Carbon steels:
In the first kiln sections, where the gas temperature is usually below 500°C, carbon steels can be installed. If mechanical
wear is higher, low alloy steels are recommended which may also be heat treated for lower wear.
 
Alloy steels:
Compared with carbon steels, low alloy steels have a higher core hardness and will give better service in temperature ram
ges between 300 up to 500°C (560-932°F)
 
Ferritic steels:
Ferritic steels are very resistant to sulphurous gases, but less  suitable for nitriding and/or carburizing atmospheres and  highly suitable to kilns fired with gas or oil.
Austenitic Cr-Ni-steels:
Austenitic Cr-Ni steels are more resistant to carburizing \atmospheres, but unsuitable for sulphurous gases.
 
Austenitic-manganese steels:
Cr-Ni-Mn steels combine the advantages of ferritic and aus-tenitic alloys and are especially suitable in kilns with sulphur containing gases with carburizing conditions.
Further chain material qualities like 1.4571, 1.4833, etc. are available on request.
A well designed kiln chain system can consist of austenitic manganese and ferritic steels if the kiln is fired with pet coke,
coke and waste if the risk of caburizing is small. For high cab-urising atmospheres only austenitic manganese qualities should be installed.
